Windows Task ManagerWindows Task Manager show running processes. Different from Control Panel/Services these are local running copy and not necessarily restart with the computer.
Here is where a careful culling of Control Panel/Services really shines in that with under 20 running Windows Task Manager processes, the list reverts to a single screen (no roll bar) and you can begin to memorize what's legitimate from what is foreign or new.
Note: While in Windows Task Manager/Processes, I select the upper "view" menu item and then "Select Columns" and then check "handle count" and "thread count".
